In this Chinese name, the family name is Tse.
Tse Genjo (born 23 December 1994) is a Chinese racing driver who won the 2013 FF3M championship and is currently racing in the 2014-15 FF2M Asia series for Willows Junior
Early History[]
Born in Zhuhai, Tse's family had a sporting background as his mother played tennis semi-professionally and currently owns a nearby sports centre, while his father played football for Guangzhou FC before a shoulder injury cut his career short. Neither parent was particularly interested in motor-racing, but when it was announced that FF1M would visit China for the first time in 2004, the Tse family took a trip to Shanghai to watch the race, which was won by Shannon's Vitantonio Liuzzi. Tse's parents fell in love with the sport and decided to put all their efforts in for their son to become a racing driver. Apparently, Tse took some convincing, but once he got into a go-kart, he was immediately and blisteringly quick.
2012 SEA[]
Tse competed in the 2012 FF4M SEA championship and finished 2nd in the championship behind the dominant Cooper Lee. This was in spite of a two race suspended ban after a collision with Zikri Yang at Sepang led to a punch-up at the side of the circuit. This made his performance at what was effectively a home race at Shanghai particularly impressive after taking pole position, fastest lap, and the win.
FF3M (2013)[]
2013[]
Although he wasn't signed to an FF1M team's driver academy, Tse took part in the 2013 FF3M season where he partnered fellow FF4M rival Itsuki Yoshida at the Typhoon Racecraft team. Both drivers got along well with each other and it translated into the racing, with Tse and Yoshida winning both races at the opening meeting. Ultimately, Tse had the measure over his teammate as he took a further four wins including a magnificent double at Macau to win the championship.
FF1M (2014-2015)[]
2014[]
After his FF3M success, Tse was quickly signed by Horizon as one of their test drivers for the 2014 FF1M season. He took part in the young drivers test at Interlagos after the 2013 season had finished. He was 10th quickest in the morning session but improved massively in the afternoon when the teams switched to the 2014 engines to jump up to 2nd.
Tse only took part in the second Imola session during pre-season testing for the 2014 season, but he was a remarkable 3rd quickest on the hard tyres, just four tenths behind Lewis Hamilton. He also participated in both practice sessions for the Chinese Grand Prix and was in the top ten both times. Tse's next test driver role was with Mitchell alongside Sebastien Buemi for the 2015 season.
FF2M (2014-2016)[]
2014[]
Tse took part in the 2014 FF2M season with the Ajay Motorsports team, where he was once again partnered by Yoshida. Tse qualified an impressive 5th for the first feature race of the season, and had an even better race to finish 2nd behind teammate Yoshida. Unlike the previous two seasons, it was Yoshida who outscored and outperformed Tse, although the Chinese driver managed to take a victory in the sprint race during the Monza meeting.
2014-15 Asia[]
For the 2014-15 FF2M Asia series, Tse signed to race for Willows Junior alongside Esteban Ocon, but it was an inauspicious introduction in Macau as a collision with Robin Frijns sent Tse facing the wrong way. Although he managed to make some form of recovery, he left the Macau meeting without any points, a disappointing outcome considering he won the 2013 FF3M championship with a double at the same circuit. Tse's season then picked up with regular points scores in the following meetings, but as a whole, he was outclassed by Ocon.
2015[]
Tse moved to Spaniel for the 2015 FF2M season to partner Vaino Kimminen. After being outscored in the previous two seasons, he was hoping to at least give relative newcomer Kimminen a run for his money. Aside from a strong showing at the Nurburgring where he scored two podium finishes, Tse's season never took off. Monaco was a particularly low point where after qualifying on pole, he was spun round at the chicane by his own teammate. He ended the season a rather disappointing 10th.
2015-16 Asia[]
Tse reunited with Esteban Ocon and the Willows Junior team for the 2015-16 FF2M Asia series. Having not spoken to Kimminen since their collision at Monaco, he had been keen to switch teams. He didn't endear himself well in the first race as he collided with his teammate whilst battling for the lead. He took pole position in Dubai, but finished out of the points after poor pace on the hard tyres. His one highlight was a 3rd in the Bahrain GP feature race, and was generally outclassed by Ocon.
FGT3 Supercup (2016)[]
2016[]
Having failed to find an FF2M drive for 2016, Tse moved disciplines to race for Blue Spirit Racing in the 2016 FGT3 Supercup series with Alexander Albon as his teammate. He would have a fairly quiet season with his best result being a 4th at Melbourne, although he scored a pole position at Macau, a circuit he likes a lot. He finished 12th in the drivers championship.
FF2M (2016-17)[]
2016-17 Asia[]
Tse returned to FF2M for the 2016-17 Asia series with GRM Junior and declared himself "refreshed" before the opening meeting at Sepang were he scored a 3rd in the feature race before colliding with George Russell in the sprint race. An anonymous meeting at Suzuka was followed by a resurgence in the Middle East with two feature race wins and two sprint race podiums.
