Mason Motorsport (also known as Talent Racing and Venture Grand Prix) were a team in FF1M that participated in four seasons. They were formed by team boss Jamie Mason and previously competed in AF1RL as Mason Motorsports.
History
1998-2001
In the 1998 FF1M season, Mason Motorsports announced their FF1M campaign by signing 1997 race winner David Coulthard, Juan Pablo Montoya and customer Mercedes engines. The season proved fruitful for the team as Montoya scored 2 pole positions and the team's first FF1M win at the British Grand Prix after a close battle with Dodgem's Michael Schumacher. However, according to a spokesperson in the team, the season had been "too successful," and so, Talent Racing were formed in 1999.
Talent Racing raced in the 1998 FF1M-3000 championship and were promoted to the top level of Fantasy Formula 1 Management. Brazilian drivers Pedro Diniz and Ricardo Rosset led the charge, but as predicted, they ended the season bottom of the eleven teams with only two points to the team; a real contrast to the season before where Mason was challenging for podiums.
David Coulthard rejoined Jamie Mason's team for the 2000 season and was joined by Italian Giancarlo Fisichella, but Talent Racing were struggling at the back of the grid and repeated their 1999 result of last place in the championship. Their season's highlights were Coulthard's fastest lap at a damp Brazilian Grand Prix and a 6th place, again from Coulthard, at a chaotic Japanese Grand Prix.
Mason's team disappeared during the pre-season period of the 2001 season. Their final appearance was shortly after the San Marino Grand Prix when they wrote a press release explaining their departure from FF1M.
Comeback?
Shortly after the 2005 Australian Grand Prix, news emerged that a Talent Racing spokesperson announced were planning on returning to FF1M in the 2006 season. Providing one of the teams were to drop at the end of the 2005 season, Mason would get a second chance in FF1M. However, AFIA boss Ajay hinted at the introduction of pre-qualifying. Talent Racing have caught the attention in particular with Andy Racing, as a potential season long war over Andy Racing's driver Christijan Albers errupted in the paddock.
