Previous: 2000 | Next: 2002 |
The 2001 FF1M Season began on the 9th May 2010 and was the fourteenth season of FF1M. It was be supported by FF2M on all European race weekends. The season was notable for the introduction of technologies, and being the only season in which Fuel, Brakes and Chassis suppliers could be purchased.
The Drivers Championship was won by rookie Cristiano Da Matta driving for Gui Racing, this was notable as he became the first driver to win the title without winning a race during the season, this was because of the far superior reliability of his slower Gui Racing car against his title rivals.
Meanwhile FJR won their first Teams Championship title after a hard fought campaign that was led for most of the season by the Pedersen team, however superior reliability from FJR and improved pace throughout testing saw FJR's dream come true.
Rule Changes
Engines
The 2001 FF1M Season will mark the return of Renault to FF1M after an absence of three seasons and Peugeot will become Asiatech. From the 2001 Season onwards there will be no Works and Customer engines, all engines of a manufacturer will have the same power levels.
Suppliers and Technologies
From the 2001 FF1M season teams will have to sign deals with a variety of suppliers, not just engines and tyres. They will be able to choose from a range of different partners in areas such as Brakes, Oils, Chassis Design etc. and they will be able to purchase new technologies as well such as Traction Control and Turbo’s. All these new components will have different strengths and weaknesses, and they will also have a reliability value, meaning that once again reliability will move from the Team, to the components. Doing reliability testing however will still only affect your team and not anyone else using those components.
For teams who do not wish to go through the agony of choosing their suppliers, a standard base package will be available.
